Hello! I pray this message finds you encouraged and strengthened today.
As believers, we must be careful not to focus on things that appear important while neglecting what matters most. Sometimes, we can major in minors and minor in majors.
This was the attitude of some Jewish religious leaders during Jesus’ earthly ministry. They placed great emphasis on outward religious traditions. For example, they questioned why Jesus’ disciples did not perform ceremonial handwashing before eating.
However, Jesus redirected their attention from external practices to the deeper issue of the heart.
He said:
“It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.”
— Matthew 15:11 (ESV)
Jesus taught that true spiritual purity does not come from outward appearances alone. Instead, it begins within the heart. Our thoughts, words, and actions reveal what is happening inside us.
The words we speak often reveal the condition of our hearts. A heart filled with God’s love produces words that bring encouragement, patience, forgiveness, and grace.
On the other hand, words filled with anger, bitterness, pride, or hatred reveal areas where God desires to bring transformation.
Therefore, our daily conversations provide an opportunity to reflect the character of Christ.
As you interact with people this week, consider this question:
If someone listened to my conversations throughout this week, what would they discover about the condition of my heart?
This question challenges us to examine not only what we say but also the attitude behind our words.
God is not only interested in changing our behaviour. He desires to transform our hearts.
When Christ works within us, that transformation becomes visible through the way we speak, respond, and treat others.
The Bible reminds us:
“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”
— Proverbs 4:23
Therefore, let us guard our hearts daily. Let us allow God to shape our thoughts, attitudes, and conversations.
May our words this week reflect hearts that are being renewed and transformed by Christ.
