Thomas O. Chisholm wrote the beloved hymn Great Is Thy Faithfulness. His life included poor health, financial difficulties, and several changes in occupation.
Poor health eventually forced him to leave pastoral ministry. Yet, through these challenges, Chisholm continued to recognise God’s faithfulness and provision.
His experience inspired the words of Great Is Thy Faithfulness. The hymn draws especially from Lamentations 3:22–23:
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22–23 (NIV)
These verses remind us that God’s faithfulness never changes. His mercy does not depend on our circumstances. Whatever yesterday brought, God gives us fresh mercy today.
Have you experienced difficult weeks recently? Does your situation make you feel that hope is fading?
If so, deliberately remember God’s character and faithfulness. Your circumstances may change, but God remains faithful.
Do not let yesterday define today.
Today is a new morning. It is also a new opportunity to trust God. His mercy is still available, and His faithfulness remains certain.
Therefore, receive His mercy, trust His promises, and step into this new week with hope.
